Bike or walk to work. The only gas you’ll use with this option is oxygen. Savings: $1,560 per year.

Telecommute. Learn about this quiet revolution in the workplace. Telecommuting twice a week can save you 40 percent of your gas costs according to the Telework Coalition. Savings: $624 per year.

Carpool. If you must use your car, share your ride. Find a ride in your local paper or trycraigslist. Savings: $780 per year if shared with one other person.

Keep your car tuned. A well-tuned car uses approximately nine percent less gas than a poorly tuned car, and you can lose about two percent in fuel economy for every pound of pressure your tire is under the recommended level. Savings: $150 per year.

Learn to drive. Rapid acceleration and braking can lower your gas mileage by five percent around town and 33 percent on the highway, or an average of $0.55 per gallon. And, you get less mileage for your money (23 percent less or $0.67 per gallon) if you drive over 60mph. Savings: $1.22 per gallon, or $634 per year.

Decrease your drag. If you aren’t using that overhead luggage rack, take it off (do you really need to carry that much luggage in the first place?). Also, it may help to turn off the AC and open up your windows to conserve gas, but not when you’re cruising down the highway at 60mph. Open windows at that speed increases drag and is less conservative than using the AC.

Please add to these Great Ideas if you have any suggestions on How to Go Green!

landfills provide more than 19,000 acres of wildlife habitat.
some good tips for just normal everyday things you don't think about:

Think about how much garbage you and your family alone create each week, or even just each day...! The next time you finish a two liter bottle of soda, or a gallon of milk, even if you don't have the option to recycle, you can always squish the bottle or gallon jug to near flat, then replace the cap or lid on it so it will remain flat. This not only saves you space when you fill your cart or garbage can, it also assists with the number of trips to landfills after your garbage leaves your house! Believe it or not, if everyone would do this, it could make a difference, and it takes very little effort. Try it next time! :D

request paperless billing ,meaning instead of receiving your bills via the US postal service ,go online and request them to be sent to your email, setting up online banking is another good way to pay your bills and not leave all that paper trail!!!
I also think that requesting your pay stubs be scanned and sent as an attachments, via email ,would save on postage/envelopes,and,actually helps those of us that travel keep up with important papers where they can be safely stored and found while we are busy taveling about ( packing and unpacking lol!!!!)
